We focus on 24 hour recovery

New Day Plastic Surgery Center advanced surgical procedures  help reduce post-operative pain, decrease bruising and improve recovery.  Although we cannot guarantee that you will be completely recovered by the next day, many  patients  from San Antonio, Austin, Laredo and Corpus Christi, need very little pain medications following surgery and most are able to return to their normal day-to-day activities within 24-48 hours. For patients undergoing breast augmentation, Dr. Diana does not use drains or constricting garments instead relying on precise surgical technique  to reduce post-operative pain.  Most breast augmentation San Antonio patients only wear a one-inch tape when they leave our private surgical center and have full range of motion of their arms: the devices called “pain balls” are not necessary as the procedure is precise and performed delicately, therefore requiring less medications to control discomfort.

A complete range of breast implant choices, including high profile and adjustable implants

New Day Plastic Surgery Center offers  patients from San Antonio Texas, Austin and Central Texas, including Corpus Christi, the full range of both saline and silicone breast implants including adjustable implants.  For women who are thin or have very little breast tissue, the implants are typically placed beneath the pectoralis muscle ( also referred to as “under”).  Placing the breast implants in this location leads to a softer, less visible implant, while enabling excellent mammogram and decreasing the chance of the implant interfering with the images.

During ouir one-on-one breast augmentation consultation  at New Day Plastic Surgery in San Antonio, Texas, we will discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as  the different surgical approaches and the benefits of the different breast implants. Our extensive library of surgical before and after photos is available to illustrate the different looks that can be obtained with breast augmentation. Please visit our Breast Augmentation Before and After Gallery to view examples of our work.

When breast implants are not enough, the Breast Lift-Augmentation:  the Harmony Procedure

For some patients, breast augmentation is not enough to provide the desired bustline. In this case, combination of procedures may be needed to “harmonize” breast shape and volume:  we refer to these as the “Harmony Procedure”.  In this cases a breast lift or mastopexy will be performed during the breast implant surgery. This combination of procedures allows for the breast to be more voluptuous while also relocating the nipple/areola to a more youthful placement.  New Day Plastic Surgery offers the Harmony Procedure – combination breast lift and implants performed at the same time, and this procedure is performed routinely at our Center.

What can I do for the breast augmentation scars to be as good as they can be?

Scars resulting from breast implant surgery are usually very limited and heal very well.  In our Center, we use techniques that reduce the scar size at the time of breast augmentation.  In most cases, if saline implants are used, the scar is less than one inch in length. After surgery,  we recommend a regimen  for [...]

How long does it take for the scar of breast augmentation to fade?

Breast augmentation scars tend to fade to the same color as the surrounding skin in about 6 to 9 months.  In some cases, the scars may become slightly lighter or darker than the skin.  Rarely, they may be thicker or raised.

What will the scars look like?

Breast augmentation scars tend to be very inconspicuous and heal very well, no matter where they are placed. The incisions that tend to heal with the best scars are the ones placed in the areola skin, as the tissues in this area are very thin and heal with an almost imperceptible scar line. In the [...]

How big are the breast augmentation scars?

For Saline- filled implants: Scars in the areola and breast fold are ususally ¾  to 1“ (2 to 2.5cm) long Scars in the armpit or belly button are usually 1 to 1 ½ “ (2.5 to 4 cm) long. For Silicone –filled implants: Scars in the areola or breast fold are usually 2” (5 cm) [...]

Is there a better implant position to preserve nipple sensation?

Changes in nipple sensation may be seen with implants placed in front or behind the pectoralis muscle.

Is there a better implant to preserve nipple sensation?

Preserving nipple sensation is a factor of surgical technique and appropriately matched implant size to breast size.  There is no difference in implant type.

Is there a better breast augmentation procedure to preserve nipple sensation?

Contrary to frequent statements, there is not a better incision to preserve nipple sensation.  However, the careful performance of the procedure with the identification and preservation of the nerves that bring sensation to the nipple will preserve nipple sensation in almost every case. An important variable in preservation of nipple sensation is starting and ending [...]

What will happen to my nipple sensation after breast augmentation?

Nipple sensation can change after implant surgery.  In general, sensation can increase or decrease for one to three months after surgery, and then recover completely.   In some cases, however, nipple sensation can be permanently decreased.

Will the breast implants affect or change my breast milk?

There is no evidence that the breast milk is affected by the implants.  However, a few studies exist showing that women with breast implants have detectable levels of silicone in some body fluids and lymph nodes,  so some silicone particles may be detectable in breast milk as well.

Can I breast feed after breast augmentation with implants?

It is possible that the implant surgery may interfere with breast feeding.  However, in my experience, our patients who were able to breast feed and then had breast augmentation surgery, and then became pregnant again, report that they were able to breast feed.

What happens if I become pregnant after breast augmentation?

Pregnancy usually causes an increase of breast size.  After breast augmentation, this increase will add up to the size increase obtained with the breast implants, and therefore produce a significantly larger breast than was originally planned. The increase in breast size may be temporary, and therefore the breast may completely return to the pre-pregnancy size, [...]

I lift weights, what kind of implant should I have?

Saline or silicone filled implants are safe for weight lifters.  In general, it is best to place the implant in front of the pectoralis muscle to avoid implant motion and change in breast shape if when the pectoralis muscle contracts and pushes down onto the implant.

I am a runner, is it a good idea to have implants?

Runners in general prefer to have a more lean shape, so while it is possible to have breast implants, they are usually smaller.  In general, it is recommended that women who run extensively have breast size no larger than C cup.

Can I exercise with implants?

Yes it is completely possible to exercise normally with breast implants. In general, the exercise restrictions after breast implants surgery will last one to three months, and after that normal exercise is possible and recommended.

How much will it cost to replace breast implants?

Implant replacement surgery usually costs about as much as the original procedure, unless more complex treatment may be necessary due to problems developed over time.

What kind of surgery is required to replace breast implants?

The surgery required for implant replacement is very similar to the initial implant surgery, however it usually has a shorter recovery because the breasts have already been shaped by the initial implant surgery and do not need to adjust to a new implant of the same size. If a revision surgery is required for anything [...]

When do I need to replace my breast implants? I heard that I need to replace my breast implants every ten years!

There is not a specific “time stamp” that requires implants to be replaced every ten years or after any other specific time from the initial surgery.  The “ten year replacement” myth comes from the consideration that implants used in the 70’s and 80’s had a significant leak rate, and that in the 80’s and 90’s [...]

How can I predict my Bra size after implants?

It is possible to predict final breast size after breast augmentation with a combination of accurate measurements, surgeon experience, and volume evaluation with a 3D scanner. Final breast size, however, cannot reliably always be converted into a precise bra cup size, as all bra manufacturers use different “fit” for a given bra size.

What are my limitations after the breast augmentation procedure?

We recommend a gradual increase in physical activity starting five to seven days after the procedure, including arm range of motion exercises and breast implant massages. We recommend avoiding exercise that cause sweating for one month after the procedure. Weight lifting and jogging should be gradually increased in intensity after one month and reach pre-procedure [...]

How long is the recovery from the breast augmentation procedure?

Full recovery to normal exercise and unrestricted activity level may take one to three months.  Physical recovery will depend on the kind of procedure performed, the size of the implants used, and the conditions of the breasts initially.
