Breast procedures and tummy tuck in combination:  the Mommy Makeover

Breast lift and tummy tuck in San Antonio as a combined procedure (also known as the “Mommy Makeover”) can be performed as outpatient (no overnight stay) safely.  Dr. Diana and New Day Plastic Surgery has a very large experience with this approach to Mommy Makeover since the year 2000, performing outpatient breast lift and mommy makeover with excellent outcomes and reduced recovery.

Many lift options are available, including:

1. The periareolar or Benelli lift:  reduced scars and full breast shape effect with the Harmony Procedure

With this technique, also  known as the Benelli lift, the incision is made around the areola, without any other visible scar underneath or around the breast.  The breast tissue is reshaped and special sutures are placed to firm and support the new breast structure.  The accurate performance of this procedure is crucial to the outcome, since the support and the position of the nipple on the breast mound are controlled by these sutures.

Benelli Lift with implants by Mario Diana MD in San Antonio, Texas

The periareolar or Benelli lift is a very effective technique for young women with fairly dense breasts and mild degree of sag (ptosis level one or two).  The Benelli lift can also be a  great option for women with soft, stretchy breast tissues and a greater degree of sag.  In those cases, an implant is often added to the lift to improve shape (see above).  If you are considering a breast lift or a breast lift with implants the Benelli breast lift can be an excellent choice.

Most situation of mild “sag” (ptosis) in young patients can be corrected by  a periareolar lift (“Benelli” lift).  This is a technically difficult operation so results vary significantly from surgeon to surgeon.

  1. The breast gland should be dense and at least a B cup
  2. Nipple position should be no lower than the breast fold
  3. The goals of the procedure should be to have a naturally lifted breast appearance.

Any procedure, including the Benelli lift, will leave some scars that may be visible permanently.   For more information on Breast Lift San Antonio with the Benelli technique please call our office for a personal consultation.

2. The vertical lift.

The Vertical lift has a lollypop pattern scar that goes around the areola and extend down to the fold.

With this technique, the tissue around the areola can be freed up and the tissue in the lower portion of the breast can be moved below the areola itself or above it, to create a fuller shape in the upper pole.  The vertical reduction technique can be used for both lift and reduction with excellent results.

The Vertical technique of breast lift is a very powerful and effective technique, only limited by some unique anatomy or particular  skin and tissue problems.  Most patients are happy to have a reduced scar pattern and avoid the incision below the breast, which is the one with the most common issues of thickening and irritation wearing a bra.  If you are considering a  Breast Lift  in San Antonio you should contact New Day Plastic Surgery Center for a personal evaluation.

3. The Weise pattern or “Anchor” lift.

The Weise pattern lift or “anchor” lift is the most common pattern used in breast lift.  It is a very effective incision pattern that gives access to all the areas of the breast and allow complete control over shape, position and size.

Anchor Lift with auto implant by Mario Diana MD in San Antonio, Tx

The anchor lift pattern can be used in procedures like the Spiral Flap, the Laser Bra, and Internal Suspension suture lift.  The scar pattern in an anchor breast lift goes around the areola, down to the fold, and across the fold in a variable length.

The Weise pattern or “anchor” pattern breast lift can be successfully performed in any breast size, shape and density, making this procedure the most readily utilized by most Plastic Surgeons.  The Weise lift pattern has however the most scars, so to improve the scar healing we routinely use the Internal Bra approach, limiting scar tension and providing the most support.

I heard that I don’t need a lift, I should just get bigger implants to fill the breast…

Filling the breast tissue that has sagged will only give the illusion of a lift.  In fact, over time, the breast that has been filled with a large implant to “avoid a lift” will sag more and be lower than the original breast.

Don’t the breast implants lift my breast?

No, breast implants will only fill the breast tissue envelope, not lift it. In some case breast implants may give the illusion of a lift, but in fact they do not .

I just want implants. Why do I need a lift?

A lift is performed to reshape a breast that is sagging or otherwise not adequately shaped.  Breast implants can improve breast shape but they mainly provide volume. Breast implants will not lift a breast.  In fact, breast implants used in a breast that is sagging will increase the sag  if a lift is not done [...]

I heard that I could not have a breast lift and implants. Is that true?

I was told I need a breast reduction but I just want my breasts to be higher. What are my options?

Breast lift techniques will cause a small reduction in breast size that happens when the breast tissue is lifted.   If maintaining the existing breast size is essential, then a combination of breast lift and implants or fat transfer should be used.

I don’t want the scars of a breast lift but I want my breasts to be fuller and higher. What can I do?

If your breasts have lost fullness in the upper pole, that fullness can be restored with breast implants or fat transfer.  If the problem is poor breast shape, with thin tissues and stretchy skin, implants will not resolve the problem and may actually make it worse. Breast lifts involve some incisions and some scars are [...]

I heard that I cannot have a breast lift and implants at the same time. Is that true?

No it is not.  Since the combination of a breast lift and breast implants is a technically demanding procedure with a higher risk factor than each procedure performed alone, many plastic surgeons prefer to split the two procedures and perform them at different times.  However, we offer breast lift with and without implants and our [...]

I heard that if I get bigger implants that will lift my breasts. Is that true?

Larger implant will simply make the breast bigger, not lift it.  A heavier/ larger breast will always settle lower than a lighter/smaller breast.

I want my breasts to be higher and bigger. Can I do that with just breast implants?

Breast implants will not lift the breast.  In fact, larger breasts will always be lower in position than smaller breast.    Breast implants may: Fill the upper aspect of the breast, giving the impression of a fuller breast in clothes Change the proportions of the breast mound to the nipple, which in some cases will make [...]

After a breast lift, will I be smaller?

Some breast lift techniques will slightly decrease breast size, and all breast lift techniques change the way the breast fits in a bra, so the bra size is often smaller.  In addition, after a breast lift,  the breast tissue will become somewhat smaller during the healing and firming up phase, in response to the surgical [...]
